Throughout Chinese history, whenever there were major natural disasters or catastrophes, the state would invariably invite eminent monks and masters to preside over altars. They prayed upward to the Buddhas for blessings and protection, while seeking downward to educate and guide sentient beings, with the hope of resolving disasters and bringing peace to the people and prosperity to the country. The Triple Yearning Dharma Service is one of the most representative and auspicious Buddhist rituals of this kind.
